Standard vs experimental
The standard version has a flat milled backside while the experimental one has a slight bow which might help to increase the preload on the carriage. If this has any real effect is still not fully evaluated. The experimental one is not recommended to be used with printed toolheads/carriages.
The monolith belt clamp
The Monolith's flipped belt path is only one belt thickness away from the surface of the X-axis MGN12H carriage. This makes it possible to design a thin SLM belt clamp that fits directly around the carriage.
Design Goals
Single-piece design: Simple, compact construction with no separate clamp components.
Light & space-efficient: Very lightweight and compact compared to other belt-clamping solutions.
6T minimum engagement: Achieves the minimum 6-tooth engagement recommended by Gates, preventing damage to the belt teeth at specification tension and high accelerations.
Straight loaded belt path: The section of belt under load remains completely straight, avoiding minimum bending-radius violations.
Full X travel: Narrow enough to maintain the standard X-axis travel for 250, 300 and 350 mm builds.
Clip-on installation: Can clip onto the MGN12H carriage without screws and stay in place until the rest of the toolhead is installed.
Universal belt width: No vertical space constraint, supporting belts up to 12 mm wide.
External belt excess: Excess belt remains on the outside of the clamp.
Easy belt setup: With only two screws partially tightened, the opposite end of the belt can easily be pulled to remove slack before final tensioning.
